YAD Leadership Development

National Young Leadership Cabinet

The National Young Leadership Cabinet of the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) is a select group of men and women actively engaged in shaping the future of the Jewish community in North America, Israel and throughout the world. A dynamic force for change, the Cabinet is made up of individuals who are distinguished by their volunteer and financial contributions to Jewish communal life and their personal leadership qualities.

Cabinet members go on to become national Chairs, Federation leaders, political office holders and Jewish community activists. Cabinet members serve as role models, educators, and leaders in their own communities and on the national level, imparting Jewish values by encouraging a knowledge of the Jewish past and a concern for the Jewish future.

Cabinet members receive training in solicitation, Jewish education, Israel advocacy, and other skills vital for serving as effective Jewish communal leaders. We have an outstanding and growing group of Cabinet members in Pittsburgh and look forward to adding to it.

Wechsler Leadership Development Institute

The Wechsler Leadership Development Institute, funded through the Irving J. and Jacquelin G. Wechsler Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh Foundation, is a unique opportunity for young adults who are interested in, and passionate about, the Jewish community. Wechsler provides a platform for participants to develop their own leadership skills and identify what it takes to be a Jewish community leader. Graduates learn to utilize those strengths to perpetuate the Federation and it's beneficiary agencies' missions both locally and globally.

Wechsler is a ten-month course with one session per month from approximately September through June. Highlights from the course have included tours of local agencies, a hands-on volunteer experience, mock budget and allocations process, and opportunities to travel to National Young Leadership conferences. Institute graduates hold positions of significant responsibility throughout the community.

"Soon after moving to Pittsburgh from New York in the summer of 2009, I was invited to join the 2009-2010 Wechsler program.  Wechsler was a phenomenal introduction to Pittsburgh's Jewish community and all the wonderful services that the Federation supports through it's Annual Campaign and highly caring employees and volunteers.  Through Wechsler, I made some wonderful new friends, who share similar values and desire to enrich the Pittsburgh Jewish community through their efforts. The Wechsler program prepared me well for my incoming position as Young Women's Chair and a member of the Young Adult Division Board.  I look forward to becoming more involved with the Federation in assisting it to meet it's goals and in actively participating in this thriving Jewish community." - Catia Kossovsky, 2010 Wechsler Graduate
